We have now been about two weeks in Makana and got a good start on our projectwork. Working on the sanitationproject is Henna Timonen and Sofie Lundin. We are well taken care of, meeting interesting people, getting to know Grahamstown and enjoying our stay in this beautiful country! We have seen the rural areas, the nature and animals, also surrounding cities such as Port Elizabeth and Port Alfred.
The project have started with field visits to the rural areas in Makana, where we have talked about dry toilets and mapped the needs of the people. Right now we are focusing on research, data handling and writing of the report to Makana municipality. Tomorrow we will visit the farm with the dry toilets pilot project, that will be intersting to hear their thoughts.
During our stay here we have encountered friendly people, wild animals, wonderful nature and a lot of history. We try to learn afrikaans and xhosa, we enjoy tasting local food and every day is an adventure!

Hi Sofie and Henna,
Nice to hear that you enjoy your stay in Makana! Yes, I agree that the people and the country are very nice.
I hope that you can give them good suggestions regarding the sanitation issue. Your plans so far seem good to me.
Greetings from Raseborg
Maria
